04:50 Secret of the Andes
Film Family comedy about the hunt for an ancient relic with magical powers. An archaeologist finds his expedition running into trouble when locals become hostile. Then his wife arrives with their mischievous daughter, who befriends the village wise man, and they set out to solve the riddle of the Andes.

06:00

06:40 The Dukes of Hazzard: the Beginning
Film Raucous prequel to the TV series about three teenagers sent to their uncle's ranch in America's Deep South, where moonshining is their family industry and they must do battle with the local town's corrupt city commissioner.

08:00

08:20 Web of Lies
Film Although nowhere near as clever as it likes to think it is, this hybrid of campus teen pic and "sting" thriller still has enough to recommend it. Seth Green emerges from the shadow of his Scott Evil character in the Austin Powers pictures to play a computer geek student who teams up with impoverished country boy Brad Rowe to dupe a crime boss out of a small fortune. Taking his cue from films like House of Games, director Byron W Thompson occasionally overplays his hand as he toys with our expectations and the resolution is something of a disappointment.

10:00

10:00 Rob Roy
Film Mel Gibson may have grabbed the Oscar glory for Braveheart, but this rip-snorting early-18th-century tartan romp is a lot more fun. Liam Neeson plays the principled Robert MacGregor, who becomes reluctant rebel Rob Roy when his money is stolen and his wife, Jessica Lange, is raped by evil English aristocrat Tim Roth. Neeson is suitably heroic, but Roth is a diabolical delight, stealing every scene in which he appears, and he's matched by fellow villains John Hurt and Brian Cox. Scottish-born director Michael Caton-Jones makes striking use of the rugged locations and stages the action sequences with robust glee - the flashing duel between Neeson and Roth is a highlight.

12:00

12:25 Double Jeopardy
Film This thriller was a big hit in the US, where women lined up to see Ashley Judd's wronged wife get her own back on her evil, cheating partner. What starts off as a romantic sailing trip turns into a nightmare when she wakes up one morning surrounded by coastguards with her spouse (Bruce Greenwood) missing and pools of blood all over the boat. Sent to prison for his murder, she discovers he faked his own death and has run off with their child and her best friend. Eventually released on parole, she decides to give her husband the punishment he deserves, inspired by the fact that she can't be tried for his murder twice. Judd gives a believable performance, but Tommy Lee Jones is in sub-Fugitive mode as the federal officer on her trail. It's completely preposterous, of course, but perfect mindless entertainment if you're in the mood.

18:50 Rocky
Film Dusting down the classic Hollywood story of the little man winning big, this triple-Oscar-winning boxing drama is shot through with genuine impassioned commitment, born of the fact that Sylvester Stallone realised that this was his best hope of stardom. The notion, then, of success hanging by a thread unites both the character of boxer Rocky Balboa and of Stallone himself. Stallone, in fact, is highly convincing as a mumbling Philadelphia no-hoper who makes the most of his opportunities and ends up having a crack at the loquacious heavyweight champion of the world, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers, by way of Muhammad Ali). Sly also wrote the script and was rewarded with Oscar nominations for both acting and writing.

22:50 Fire Down Below
Film He may be a convert to saving the Earth, but Steven Seagal proves he is no tree-hugging peacenik in this eco-thriller. He is joined by Harry Dean Stanton and a grizzled Kris Kristofferson for a tale about environmental mayhem in rural Tennessee. Seagal plays a federal agent on a twin mission to track down the killer of a colleague and destroy the industrialist who has been poisoning the local water supply. As usual, Seagal's fists and boots do most of the talking, but fans will enjoy an unexpected treat as their hero warbles a folk song over the credits.
