11:15 Geronimo
Film Today, Chuck Connors might not seem politically correct casting as the famous Apache leader, but back in the 1960s this was the kind of role that consolidated the star power of the former professional baseball player. Connors looks good and acquits himself well, and the landscapes - shot by Mexican cinematographer Alex Phillips - are stunning. Unfortunately, the script strays from the whole shameful story and fails to improve upon history, with the defeat of the great warrior reduced to "cowboys and Indians" level. The eclectic casting is interesting, however, including Adam "Batman" West and the ever-reliable Denver Pyle as a corrupt congressman. Underrated film-maker Arnold Laven gets the most out of what's available, but director Walter Hill told the story more effectively with more truth and less glamour in 1993.
