10:35 Just My Luck
Film This horse-racing comedy is not a particularly distinguished Norman Wisdom movie, but a pleasant enough time-waster nonetheless. On its original release, Rank realised the film's weaknesses and shored it up with a rock 'n' roll supporting feature. Today it's a brave viewer (or a devout fan of Wisdom) who'll watch, for the star's mawkish side is virtually given free rein as he tries to win enough money to buy a gift for Rank starlet Jill Dixon. If you can't stand Wisdom, there are British comedy stalwarts, including Margaret Rutherford, Leslie Phillips and Joan Sims, in supporting roles, and 1950s nostalgia freaks will enjoy spotting Sabrina - you can't miss her!

19:00

19:00 The Animal's Guide to Britain
Freshwater Animals
Nature Medieval folk held that wives who scolded their husbands would have their mouths sewn shut by a "devil's darning needle" - ie, a dragonfly. There was also a theory that the testicles of beavers worked as painkillers, a belief that, as you might expect, helped the species to extinction here in Britain. If that sort of trivia appeals, you'll find much to enjoy in Chris Packham's new series. It sets out to show Britain through the eyes of its wildlife, with nice detours into the animals' chequered history with humans. Mostly, though, Packham offers portraits of beloved creatures - all, in this opening programme, living in and around our rivers, lakes and ponds. So there's wonderful footage of ospreys fishing in a Scottish loch (it later emerges this is a fish farm, which almost seems a cheat), and the amazing hinged jaw of the dragonly larva, and the sad tale of how imported American mink that escaped from mink farms (or were freed by activists) almost wiped out our native water voles. But now, thanks to some firm intervention, the water vole is making a comeback - and if a trial in Scotland is successful, the beaver may follow. Radio Times reviewer - David Butcher

20:00

20:00 A History of Celtic Britain
Age of Warriors
Factual Only the mischievous will fill in Neil Oliver's sentence "This isn't just any old hill fort" with "This is an M&S hill fort". Neil won't mind, he's a cheery chap, though he does like his awed moments to the camera. And he has much to be awed about when he holds the beautiful gold torque from the British Museum's Snettisham treasure hoard from 75 BC. It is, truly, a thing of wonder. We have reached the age of the warrior in Oliver's canter through ancient Britain, a violent time when you couldn't leave your hut without someone trying to stick a sword in your head (we see a damaged skull as evidence). Radio Times reviewer - Alison Graham

21:30 Newsnight
News and current affairs Analysis of the day's events, presented by Gavin Esler.

22:00

22:20 Filthy Cities
Revolutionary Paris
Factual The second episode of Dan Snow's history of urban muck is every bit as, er, vivid as the first. You'll need a strong stomach not to physically wince away from the screen as, for instance, he uses dog poo and human urine to treat animal hide - as tanners used to - or as he is given an expert description of what a mass grave really looks and smells like. The subject is 18th-century Paris, an unbelievably overcrowded and diseased place, where even in the gilded halls of Versailles, the aristocrats routinely wee-ed in the corridors. Marie Antoinette didn't: she had a lieu Anglaise - the newfangled lavatory that, according to Snow, gave us the word 'loo'. Radio Times reviewer - David Butcher
